Jose Mourinho has dropped hints he would resist Manchester United
goalkeeper David de Gea joining Real Madrid this summer. Spain’s No 1 is on a
shortlist at the Santiago Bernabeu that also includes
Courtois but Mourinho wants the 27-year-old to remain at Old Trafford and attempt to win his second Premier League title. Mourinho and David de Gea ‘Do you think a club that is trying to attract the best players is the club that is open to sell the best players? It makes no sense,’ said Mourinho in a report by Mail Online.
‘If you want to go to that level you have to attract the best
players like we did with Alexis, Matic and Pogba and so on. And don’t let our
best players go.’ De Gea has developed into one of the world’s top goalkeepers
after initially struggling at United following an £18.9million move from
Atletico Madrid in 2011. A £30million move to Real Madrid unexpectedly broke
down in 2015 when the necessary paperwork wasn’t filed in time and he made his
300th appearance for United against Huddersfield last weekend. The 27-year-old
shot-stopper has kept 90 clean sheets in 226 Premier League appearances for
United.
